Alesia Cockerham
Cockerham Named Business Woman of the Year by Davie Business Women’s Association For Immediate Release (Mocksville) Alesia Dillard Cockerham has been chosen as the 2010 recipient of the Davie Business Women’s Association Business Woman of the Year Award. Cockerham is the President and past Membership Chair of DBWA. She assumed leadership responsibilities immediately upon Joining the professional women’s organization in 2007, and she is an eager and competent contributor to all aspects of the chapter. Cockerham is Vice President of W.C. Construction Company, LLC, a licensed commercial contracting company that she co-founded in 2006. The company offers general contracting, construction management and design-build services throughout North Carolina. She firmly believes in providing clients with exceptional and quality customer service. Cockerham offers other business owners this advice, “As a business owner, the customer should serve as your main priority when providing services. The customer acts as your best critic and will always give feedback on how to improve your business. However, you must have the right attitude when receiving constructive criticism and be willing to make necessary changes. Over time, this will generate more opportunities for you and your company. “ Cockerham credits her resilient grandmother, Genelle Watkins, as her source of strength and motivation in both her professional and personal life. “My grandmother has to be the strongest person that I know. She’s taught me to always believe in myself, have a solid work ethic, take time for prayer and treat others how you wish to be treated. “ Cockerham, a Davie County native, is a graduate of Davie High School and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She enjoys volunteering with the children’s ministry of Praise Assembly Christian Ministries and spending time with family and friends. She is married to William Cockerham Jr. and resides in Winston Salem, NC. ###

Bette Hauser Named DBWA Business Woman of the Year January Meeting Topic: Generating and Maintaining Trust by Sheri West Symanski The Davie Business Women’s Association recognized Bette Hauser of Savory Spoon as its 2006 Business Woman of the Year. The award is given annually to a DBWA member who has made outstanding contributions in business, in serving the community, and in helping the group’s mission of helping businesswomen of diverse occupations grow personally and professionally. Hauser is a 29-year resident of Davie County and 10-year owner of Savory Spoon, located on Hwy 801 North. An outstanding cook with more than 20 years in the food service industry, she has the versatility to cater a variety of events including private home parties, wedding receptions and dinners, church functions, and business lunches and company picnics. She regularly provides nutritious and reasonably priced lunches for DBWA’s monthly meetings. For more than a decade, Hauser has spent three weeks each summer as a chaperone for People to People, a travelling youth organization founded in the 1950s by Dwight D. Eisenhower to encourage world peace. She spends another week each year cooking for the senior high camp at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, where she has been a member for 22 years and has previously volunteered with the church children’s choir and vacation Bible school. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, is married to David Hauser and has a daughter who lives in Atlanta. “Bette is a multi-talented woman, and a true role model for the many young people with whom she has travelled,” says DBWA president Cathy Boles. “She is a ‘shepherd’ of sorts, and one who certainly knows how to feed her flock!” All businesswomen in Davie County are invited to attend the DBWA meeting on January 3 at noon at the Rotary Hut in Mocksville. The meeting is co-sponsored by the Small Business Center of Davidson County Community College and features Dr. Janice Black of The Edmonds Group as speaker. Dr. Black’s program is entitled “Generating and Maintaining Trust with Others” and will examine the dynamics of trust and how these apply to our everyday interactions, both personal and professional.
